The 14th Celtic Conference in Classics (CCC), organised by the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (CECH -FLUC), will be held at the University of Coimbra from the 11th to the 14th July.

The largest European scientific event in the area of classical studies includes 32 panels and over 500 communications, with 37 speakers from 37 countries, mainly from Italy, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, France and Greece.

"This conference is the largest event to be hosted by FLUC in 2023, and clearly reflects the international reach of CECH and FLUC's scientific work", says the CCC organising committee, made up of FLUC professors Carmen Soares, Delfim Leão and Margarida Miranda, as well as Douglas Cairns, from the University of Edinburgh.

The Celtic Conference in Classics (CCC) has rotated among universities in Britain, France and Ireland since 1998, expanding into Québec, Canada in 2017, and Portugal in 2019. The CCC includes over 20 panels on broad topics in Classics (Greco-Roman history, philosophy, literature, archaeology) with around 15-20 presenters for each panel, exploring fundamental topics in classical studies.

There will be 20 large-scale conferences on major research topics in the field of classics taking place simultaneously, encouraging Scholars to move between panels and create international networks, fostering academic cross-fertilisation and future collaborations.

In order to welcome the large number of participants at the University of Coimbra, "the Section of Classical Studies called upon its researchers and a team of student volunteers, who have long been working to turn Coimbra into the European Capital of Classical Studies throughout four days", concludes the organising committee.
