Three minutes to find the best doctoral thesis

From the 12th of December to the 19th of January, students enrolled in doctoral programmes at the University of Coimbra can submit their three-minute video to the "UC Three Minute Doctoral Thesis" competition.

3 Minute-Thesis Competition (3MT) is an academic competition to challenge PhD students to present their thesis in 3 minutes.

In 2008, the University of Queensland in Australia launched a competition called 'Three Minute Thesis' (http://threeminutethesis.org/start-3mt) where PhD candidates / students explained their research project to a lay audience in the area in three minutes with just one slide. Since then, the 3MT competition has become a global phenomenon, having been adopted by various institutions around the world.

In June 2018, the GC presented its first 3MT Final during the annual General Assembly at the University of Edinburgh.

Several universities in the group have started organising their own competition, which they present annually to the university senate, at ceremonies for new doctoral students or at other events. These presentations always receive positive feedback from participants and the scientific community.

The University of Coimbra (UC) joins this competition, giving PhD students a voice so that they can share their enthusiasm for the research they carry out at UC. The first edition of the UC 3MT will take place in the academic year 2019/2020. Applications are open from the 12th December to the 12th January.

1st phase applications must include:

• A 3-minute video,

• Consent form signed by the candidate.
