UC researcher receives award from the Portuguese Robotics Society

Mohammad Safeea, of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, received the “Best National PhD Thesis Award” from the Portuguese Robotics Society

"Safe Collaborative Robotic Manipulators" was the title of the thesis that focused on the development of robotic systems that share the operating space with humans in a safe way, avoiding collisions. The PhD thesis in Mechanical Engineering was supervised by professors Pedro Neto, (Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra - FCTUC), and Richard Bearee, from ENSAM ParisTech.

According to the Portuguese Robotics Society, the main objectives of the "Best National PhD Thesis in Robotics" award are "to foster innovation and rigour in research, as well as to promote the scientific dissemination of relevant quality work".

Mohammad Safeea is a researcher at CEMMPRE - Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes of FCTUC.
