From 7 to 17 September, the University of Coimbra (UC) will host the second edition of the Summer Course at the UC Faculty of Medicine (FMUC) for students from the Zhejiang Chinese Medical University in Hangzhou. With an "intensive programme of theoretical, practical and laboratory classes", the course also includes "an introduction to Portuguese language and culture", as well as visits to the UC's heritage sites, the Conimbríga Monographic Museum and other historical sites in the city and region, according to the executive secretary of the Confucius Institute of the UC (ICUC), Olga Canas.

Five students and a professor from the Zhejiang Chinese Medical University will be staying in a UC residence and taking their meals in UC canteens.

The course "is a way of strengthening the relationship between UC and Zhejiang and reinforcing the specificity of ICUC, which is the only one in Portugal with traditional Chinese medicine," adds Olga Canas.

In August, 15 students from UC's Faculty of Medicine and a professor underwent a similar period of mobility in Zhejiang as part of this project, which is a collaboration between ICUC and the Faculty of Medicine. According to Olga Canas, the main objective and benefit of the summer course is to " promote other ways of practising medicine".
