The University of Coimbra (UC) will develop scientific research activities and projects in the areas of road safety and prevention, traffic enforcement and traffic law, in order to support the National Road Safety Agency (ANSR) in fulfilling its mission.

The two institutions have established a four-year cooperation protocol, which also aims to develop tools to support decision-making in the areas in which NRSA operates, as well as to draw up programme agreements for the development of projects, training activities, advisory services and the provision of technical and specialist support.

In the framework of this partnership, the UC will carry out several studies in doctoral programmes, master’s and bachelor’s degrees that may help NRSA to pursue its Vision Zero 2030 strategy, i.e., the University of Coimbra intends to “use its knowledge to contribute to the fight against road accidents, in order to reduce the number of road deaths, serious and light injuries that occur on the national road network", says Professor Adelino Ferreira, of the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), who, together with the Coordinator of the Special Project UC Business, Nuno Mendonça, represents the UC in the promotion, planning, management and implementation of the agreement now signed.
