COVID-19: UC Contingency Measures

Aware of the evolution of the COVID-19 outbreak;

Taking into account the defense of the Health of the members of the University community;

After consulting with the Academic Association, the Faculties and the General Health Care of the Centre of Portugal;

The University of Coimbra announces the following measures and information:

The University of Coimbra elaborated a Contingency Plan to be applied immediately. For a period of at least 15 days, in order to apply preventive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, the University will be adapted to function in a digital way;

In a first stage, all presential classes will be suspended and will be replaced by digital methods in order to promote a distance learning model that will be implemented in the next few days;

All scientific, cultural and sports events will be also suspended and postponed as well as activities held in libraries, study rooms, touristic circuit, museums visits and the use of cultural and sports infrastructures such as the Coimbra university stadium and the Gil Vicente Academic Theatre;

All academic and professional travels within the country and abroad must be also suspended;

All canteens will function exclusively with a take-away service, avoiding the use of common spaces;

Isolation spaces were created at all 3 campuses, at the Coimbra University stadium and at the Faculty of Economics;

The University of Coimbra is implementing a Programme of dematerialization and digitalization of processes in order to avoid and diminish personal contact, identifying also the most vulnerable groups for implementing teleworking;

During the next days, the University of Coimbra will apply all necessary additional measures, in what concerns its Social Services.

The University of Coimbra states its intention to guarantee no loss in the academic and professional path of people affected by these measures, paying particular attention to students who benefit from social support.
