“Burning of the ribbons” kicks off on Friday with the Monumental Serenade
This year's edition also includes an extra evening, on 27 May, dedicated to UC alumni.

The countdown for another edition of the "Burning of the Ribbons" (Queima das Fitas) has begun!
In the early hours of Friday, more precisely at midnight sharp of the 19th of May, the traditional Monumental Serenade will be held at the Schools Patio with the performance by the Fado Group of the Coimbra Students' Union (Associação Académica de Coimbra - AAC).
Until the 26th of May, the eight concerts of the largest and oldest University students' festivity in Portugal will take place at Praça da Canção.
In the morning of the 23rd, the "burning of the ribbons" (Queima do Grelo) takes place at the Old Cathedral square and, in the afternoon, the great moment that is the hallmark of this celebration: the students' parade through the city.
Alinhamento da Serenata Monumental
This year, the Queima das Fitas celebration will have an extra night, on the 27th of May, dedicated to Coimbra Alumni, in a partnership between the University of Coimbra and AAC. This day serves a greater purpose: All proceeds from the event will go to the António Luís Gomes Fund, which grants scholarships to UC students.
