More than a dozen groups from the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Portugal will be competing over three days in basketball, futsal and volleyball. The Erasmus National Games kick off today, the 17th of November, in Coimbra, and are focused on good health and well-being. The University of Coimbra (UC) is the host of the event, which will be held at the University Stadium until 19th of November.

According to the President of ESN Portugal, Francisco Silva, the Erasmus National Games are one of ESN Portugal's major initiatives when it comes to promoting good health and well-being on international student mobility programmes. They are also a milestone in the recognition of the Erasmus+ Programme as a promoter of personal and professional development as well as European integration.

According to João Nuno Calvão da Silva, UC Vice-Rector for External Relations and Alumni, "hosting this initiative in Coimbra once again helps to strengthen student mobility at our university, which is very important in terms of internationalisation".

The event is promoted by ESN Portugal with the support of the University of Coimbra and Coimbra City Council. The winning teams in each sport will represent Portugal at the international competition, the International Erasmus Games, to be held in Poland in 2024.
