The book ‘Patriotic Resistance and Liberal Revolution 1808-1820’, authored by Ana Cristina Araújo is the winner of the 14th edition of the Joaquim de Carvalho Prize. The award, presented by the Coimbra University Press (IUC/UC Press), is granted annually by a multidisciplinary jury to recognize an outstanding research and scientific book published by the UC Press. It serves as a tribute to Joaquim de Carvalho, a distinguished humanist and academic, who was the last administrator of the UC Press, until it was closed down in 1934 by the then Prime Minister of the New State regime, António de Oliveira Salazar.

During the prize-giving ceremony, held on the 18th of December at the UC Senate Hall, the author said the book was "the result of a long research into the French invasions". For Ana Cristina Araújo, the book's uniqueness lies in the fact that it "links the Napoleonic wars with the revolutionary era, and also brings to the forefront of history protagonists who have been silenced until now: women and spies".

Ana Cristina Araújo holds a PhD in Modern and Contemporary History, is an associate professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra, and a researcher at the UC Centre for the History of Society and Culture.
