Gil Vicente Academic Theatre (TAGV) is hosting a cycle of films dedicated to German director Wim Wenders

"The best way I've found to make films is continuous movement; that's when my imagination works best," Wim Wenders wrote.

After the premiere of 'Perfect Days', which won an award at the Cannes film festival, and just before the premiere of 'Anselm - The Sound of Time', TAGV takes us on a journey through Wim Wenders' work:

15 January, 9 pm - 'Perfect Days' [2023]
29 January, 6 pm - 'The State of Things' [1982]
29 January, 9 pm - 'Anselm - The Sound of Time' [2023 - Documentary]

Born in Germany in 1945, Wim Wenders gained international renown in the 1970s as one of the pioneers of the New German Cinema and is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary German filmmakers. In addition to his impressive filmography, which includes many award-winning feature films, Wenders is recognised for his contributions as a documentary filmmaker and photographer. He is also known for writing on cinema and for his literary prose.

Wenders has received numerous awards at film festivals worldwide, including the Palme d'Or at Cannes for Paris, Texas (1984), Best Director at Cannes for Wings of Desire (1987), the Golden Lion at Venice for The State of Things (1982) and the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for The Hotel (2000). His documentaries, such as 'Buena Vista Social Club' (1999), 'Pina' (2011) and 'The Salt of the Earth' (2014), have been nominated for Academy Awards.

Wim Wenders was a special guest at LEFFEST in 2015, where he was honoured with a retrospective of his work. In 2019, he participated in the celebration of the 25th anniversary of 'Lisbon Story' (1994).
