The Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) will welcome researchers from all over the world from the 22nd to the 26th of January for a training course on radon gas monitoring, prevention and mitigation measures in buildings, organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

This training course has the support and participation of the UC Laboratory of Natural Radioactivity (LRN) - Department of Earth Sciences, the Portuguese Environment Agency, Empresa Desenvolvimento Mineiro SA (EDM) and the European Radon Association (ERA). The relevant work carried out by the LRN in this field led to the choice of Coimbra as the venue.

Effects of indoor radon exposure, radiation sources, measurement protocols and quality assurance, radon prevention and mitigation techniques, risk communication and public involvement will be the main topics covered throughout the course.

With external trainers from the United States, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic, the course will bring together participants from 22 European and Asian countries.
