"Entrepreneurship, innovation, internationalisation and mobility are at the heart of this memorandum with Santander. These are the main areas that underpin the renewal of the multi-year partnership between the University of Coimbra (UC) and the Santander Portugal Foundation, according to UC Rector Amílcar Falcão.

The Patronage Memorandum was signed on 24th October by Amílcar Falcão and the CEO of the Santander Portugal Foundation, Marcos Soares Ribeiro, who said: "Today we are signing an important memorandum", adding that the University of Coimbra "has always been a collaborative institution at the forefront of knowledge sharing, innovation and the promotion of projects that ultimately contribute to the progresss of the country".

The director of Santander Universidades, Inês Rocha de Gouveia, said that "the partnership with the University of Coimbra is outstanding in the national higher education landscape", adding that "it's our biggest partnership, it's our jewel".

The collaboration between the UC and the Santander Group has been ongoing for two decades and has resulted in various initiatives such as the University of Coimbra Award, programmes to promote entrepreneurship and research, as well as several scholarships.
