Two years after the implementation of the Healthy Campus Project, promoted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), has been invited to share its initiatives, recognised as good practices by FISU, in a book to be presented at a ceremony in Brussels on the 27th of May.

Throughout the first phase of the project, universities from all over the world submitted a range of evidence of the actions they were developing on their campuses, according to the criteria set out in the programme.

For the 100 evaluation criteria, the best practices among the participating universities will be presented. Ten good practices from the University of Coimbra were selected by FISU and will be included in the areas of Healthy Campus management, physical activity and sport, nutrition, disease prevention, prevention of risk behaviours, as well as environment, sustainability, and social responsibility.

According to António Figueiredo, Vice-Rector of the University of Coimbra for the areas of Quality, Sports and Social Services, the participation of the UC in this book of good practices shows "the recognition of the investment that the UC has made in people's health and well-being, with these features taking on an unequivocal importance in the actual fulfillment of its whole community”

The Healthy Campus Programme is aimed at promoting healthy and active lifestyles, in line with the definition of health recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), which includes achieving a “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity".

The Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that join the programme compete for a "Healthy Campus" certification awarded by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
