UC Vice-Rector takes office as advisor to the French National Centre for Scientific Research

Delfim Leão is the first Portuguese professor and researcher to be invited as a foreign expert to the Scientific Board of the CNRS Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences.

Delfim Leão, UC Vice-Rector for Culture, Communication and Open Science

The Vice-Rector for Culture, Communication and Open Science of the University of Coimbra, Delfim Leão, took office this Tuesday (16th) as a member of the Scientific Board of the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences of the French National Centre for Scientific Research - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).

Appointed in December 2023 for a term that runs until the end of 2028, Delfim Leão is the first Portuguese professor and researcher to receive an invitation as a foreign expert. As a member of the Scientific Board of the CNRS Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences, his role will include advising and assisting the President and providing critical reflection on the work being developed.

"This invitation is a unique opportunity to play a part in defining scientific policies with a strong international outreach. It is also a catalyst for aligning the scientific activity of the University of Coimbra with leading international practices," said the Vice-Rector, who is also a full professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and a researcher at the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies of the University of Coimbra.

The French National Centre for Scientific Research has ten scientific boards, organised by field of knowledge. Each board has 24 members, 12 of whom are appointed by the president of the CNRS based on their area of expertise. Delfim Leão's nomination was unanimously approved by the members of the CNRS Scientific Board.
