Diogo Cancela wins Vice World Champion title at the Paragliding Championships

The student-athlete of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra got the silver medal in the men's 200 metres freestyle S8.

Diogo Cancela, a student-athlete at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), won the Vice World Champion title in the men's the 200 metres freestyle S8 at the World Paragliding Championships in Manchester, England. The mark was achieved on 6 August with a time of 2:22:50, placing the young man from Miranda do Corvo just 21 hundredths off first place.

The gold medal went to Chinese swimmer Haijao Xu, with 2:22.29, and the bronze medal was awarded to Israel's Mark Malyar, with 2:27:31.

In the 50 metres freestyle S8 event, held on Friday (4 August), the athlete of Associação Louzan Natação took fourth place on the podium and set a new national record of 27.55 seconds.
